Somewhere Good is Redefining Men’s Fashion With Bold Graphics And Typography
We interviewed Richard Garrow Newport, creative director of Somewhere Good. A men’s fashion label founded in October 2024 and based in London, UK.
Tell us about yourself and the story behind how you started the label.
The idea of an apparel brand actually started a number of years ago when I was at Saint Martins studying fine art and graphic design. I fell in love with bold graphics, magazines, typography and streetwear (and spent my time obsessing over Neville Brody, David Carson, Ray Gun and early i-D and The Face magazines). But the music industry became my calling and had other ideas for next 20 years. Finally, I’ve come full circle, and it felt very natural to now start a brand which links back to my culture.
I loved the idea of bringing my passion in typography into the range in a unique way.
We wanted the designs to be bold, but not fully branded (You don’t actually see SOMEWHERE GOOD on any product in this first drop). If you look closely at the T-Shirts prints we use the words SOME, WHERE and GOOD but have redrawn the font to create shapes, patterns, overlays and shadows. We also use a mixture of print techniques to produce different effects. One T-Shirt actually uses four screens to create different overlays.

What is the philosophy behind it?
We want to create clothes we love, and clothes we enjoy wearing ourselves. It’s also important for us to lean into culture which has been a huge part of my life.
How would you describe your approach to men’s style?
We want to appeal to men who really care and think about their style every day and they’re confident enough to mix and match brands, styles and play with colour.
This echos my own personal approach to style.

Are there any trends in menswear you’re loving right now – or steering away from?
Trends die and come back. But your personal style is forever. Wear what you like, wear it with confidence and you’ll pull it off. I’ve been totally against an item and then seen someone just wear it so well that I’ve changed my mind.
How do you balance timelessness and trend in your collections?

Trends are temporary.
So we try not to get pulled into this and instead just stick to our belief of creating individual pieces with unique details. As a brand we also believe timelessness comes from quality. We focus on creating long-lasting items our customers can wear for years to come.
We work very closely with our manufacturers keeping the process transparent from start to finish and using premium organic materials from the UK, Portugal and Italy. We’re firm believers of buying less but better.
What’s one essential piece every man should own — and why?
Good quality socks. Socks are a very underestimated piece and are often forgotten about, but finish a look perfectly every time.
What is next for your label?
Culture is a huge driving focus behind the brand as I mentioned. We are launching our own magazine style blog celebrating brilliant minds and innovators from the world of art, design, fashion, music and beyond. Our plan is that this will become an event space in its own right next year. Also drop 2 and 3 products are currently in progress which we can’t wait to show. Exciting times ahead.
Thank you Richard for making the time to talk to us!
