Millennial Fashion: 3 Items Millennials Need To Get Rid Of To Level Up Their Style
How Most Millennials Lost Their Fashion Sense And How They Can Get it Back
I am going deep into the Reddit grooming and fashion advice forums, and I keep seeing millennial fashion lost in another era.
And not a cool one, probably one of the worst. The 2000s.
I’m talking about an era of train wreck fashion choices — thank the higher powers that Instagram didn’t exist back then. We are starting to see some of these styles making a comeback. Of course, fashion is cyclical, but not every trend deserves a revival.
Millennial Fashion: Lost In Time
The Millennial fashion styles many of us that are over 30 and wore back in the day were great for their time but many have not found their place in the 2020s.
Let’s make this simple — you have to get rid of these items. Burn them as an effigy that represents your style past. They won’t be coming back anytime soon, and your wardrobe will thank you for it.
1. Skinny Jeans

The guys who think skinny jeans are still a valid style choice might want to rethink their choices. Nothing wrong with a skinny jean — if it were still 2009. Cuts on pants have gone full circle; we’re back to wider cuts and higher waists. Think what your grandpa wore in the 1950s, and you’ll be close to what’s in these days.
2. Baggie Hoodie

Hoodies are still great items for the gym, camping, a casual doughnut run, or going to the Limp Bizkit comeback tour. But the days of the baggie, front-pocket hoodie being a straight fashion statement are over. It has been relegated to the utilitarian end of the fashion spectrum and has been replaced by the modern hoodie and sweatshirt style with cleaner lines.
If your hoodie has a front pocket and is 2 sizes too large, then it’s probably from a bygone era. Get rid of it and make the switch to the clean-cut sweatshirt or hoodie, with a more flattering silhouette and a less baggy cut.
3. Ankle Socks

This is so cool—I look like I’m not wearing socks with my sneakers – Some guy in 2003
That’s what we all thought back then. But now, that ain’t it. Socks are back, and if they’re going halfway up your shin, then you’re doing it right.
Your Uncle on the tennis court in the 90s nailed it the first time. Pull those socks up and join the old-new era of timeless sock style.
Honorable Mention: Square-Toe Shoes

I have wide feet, and this item, back in the day, was a godsend. But square-toe dress shoes had their moment. Now they look bulky and unflattering. On top of that, they just don’t complement the wide-cut pants of today. They are dated, but I hope they make a comeback someday, for all you wide-footed fellas.
I don’t write the rules of fashion — I just help you avoid the mistakes.
If you want to improve your personal look then check out some contemporary fashion icons like Bad Bunny or Drew Starkey and see how they’re dressing to get an idea of where you can take your style.
Style isn’t complicated unless you make it that way.
